Experienced Ecologist / Ecological Clerk of Works 2025
Due to the continued growth and development of our Practice, we have an exciting opportunity
for an experienced ecologist to join our dynamic ecology team. The ecology practice has
developed alongside the environmental contracting business that has been established since 1995
and offers the opportunity to be involved in habitat management and creation as well as ecology
surveys and assessments.
We are based in the East Midlands and provide services throughout the UK to a range of clients
ensuring our work is very varied and diverse. The workload and client base continues to expand
with exciting opportunities for a wide variety of habitat and species surveys, Ecological Clerk
of Works and project ecologist services, alongside habitat creation and the integrated delivery
of ecological mitigation packages.
With in-house ecology and environmental contracting teams working together, we provide a unique
opportunity to deliver the work you develop, in a dynamic solution focussed commercial
environment.
We have positions available for people with the right skills and experience to undertake
habitat/species surveys, assessments and reporting as well as Ecological Clerk of Works roles.
Of particular interest are Ecologists with a minimum of Level 1 bat class licence.
The Role:
- Undertaking a wide range of field surveys including baseline habitat assessments and
protected species surveys (badger, bats, breeding/wintering birds, great crested newt, water
vole, otter, white clawed crayfish etc) - Ecological Clerk of Works (site works supervision) duties
- Desk studies, survey data analysis and interpretation
- Producing high quality ecological reports (eg Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and
species-assessments) and mapping, including BNG accounting and assessments - Project/Client management experience
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members
- Working within a highly supportive, friendly and growing team
The nature of our work can be dynamic and the ability to be flexible is essential, as is
travelling some distance and also being able to stay away during the working week.
We are looking for people that have previous industry experience, with a practical and
adaptable approach to finding solutions to ecological challenges and are strong team members.
Requirements are flexible for the right person to fit our team; however candidates must:
- Have an Honours degree in Ecology or a related subject
- Have a minimum of 2 years experience in an Ecology role
- Be experienced in writing a range of technical reports
- Capability in GIS
- Hold full UK driving licence and at least 2 years experience of driving and access to their
own vehicle - Be eligible to work in the UK/European Economic Area.
With the following skills also being advantageous
- Licence holder including bats and GCN
- Have a minimum of qualifying membership of CIEEM, with Associate membership preferred.
