culturally diverse communities!

We have a rich history of welcoming people from all over the world and are proud to be

Introduction

Are you a flood risk specialist looking to make a real difference in a diverse and evolving
urban setting? Lewisham is a borough shaped by its waterways, where open rivers run through
parks and residential areas, reflecting a long-standing connection to water. With active,
engaged communities and a strong local identity, this is a role that offers exciting
opportunities to lead sustainable drainage and flood risk initiatives that support climate
resilience and community wellbeing.

What’s the role? …

You will lead the Council’s flood risk management work, driving our strategic approach to
understanding the risks the borough faces, while working with colleagues across highways,
public realm, parks, planning and beyond to develop and deliver sustainable drainage, natural
flood management and wider nature-based work to transform the urban landscape.

What’s in it for you?

Excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:

  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Local Government Pension scheme.
  • Flexible working and family friendly policies.
  • Season ticket and bicycle loans.
  • A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships.
  • Supportive staff networks.

What we’re looking for

You will have strong technical expertise on flood risk management aligned with a passion for
the positive ways water and nature can shape the urban environment. We’re looking for someone
who can turn strategy into action with the organisational skills and capacity to drive flood
resilience work working alongside and managing a wide range of stakeholders across the Council,
the borough and beyond.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, but will also involve working in locations across
the borough. The Council also operates a hybrid approach where you will be required to work
both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

    degree level, or equivalent experience
