Bristol Airport

Environmental Management Business Partner

Reporting to: Head of Sustainability & Social Value

Bristol Airport is the UK’s eighth busiest airport, in the last year has served over 10 million
passengers, with over 115 destinations. We connect the people, businesses and communities in
our region with new places, new experiences and new markets. We are proud to enable visitors
from all over the world to travel to experience our wonderful region for themselves.
Transformational development is happening over the next five years to improve the passenger
experience including extensions to the terminal and a new public transport interchange.

Demand to fly from Bristol Airport is forecast to grow to around 15 million passengers by
2036. Our growth plans will be delivered in line with the UK Government’s commitment to a
net-zero economy. Our carbon management strategy, along with our proactive drive to work with
airlines and other airport businesses to reduce their emissions, has been awarded with the
highest accreditation amongst UK airports. Our Sustainability Strategy sets challenging targets
and actions for how we will decarbonise our own operations and we are on track to meet our net
zero operations commitment by 2030. We are also recognized as leaders in collaborating within
the aviation industry to support the development of zero emissions flight.

The Environmental Management Business Partner will join us in playing a vital role in driving
our environmental and sustainability objectives across the Airport – from construction projects
to operations. As part of the Planning and Sustainability team you’ll maintain high standards
of environmental management and compliance. You’ll manage the protection of the local
environment and communities.

Principal responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders and external consultants to support the airport’s environmental
management and mitigation plans, including waste, air quality, and noise management, and
supporting the delivery of the airport’s Integrated Landscape Biodiversity Management and

  • Maintain the Airport’s carbon model, tracking progress against carbon reduction targets,

  • Work with our colleagues, including businesses and airlines based at the Airport, suppliers
to the Airport, to reduce carbon emissions through the delivery of capital projects including a
planned Energy Centre and solar installations, and through behavioural changes.
  • Prepare sustainability disclosures for annual accounts, including SECR (Streamlined Energy
and Carbon Reporting) and ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme)
  • Provide technical oversight of projects funded under the Airport’s Aviation Carbon
Transition programme – a fund to kick start and fast track decarbonisation initiatives in the
aviation sector focusing on Scope 3 emissions from flight and transport at Bristol Airport,
including reporting on outcomes. Support the Planning team in the assessment and mitigation of
environmental effects arising from planned growth of the airport and in ensuring environmental
compliance with our planning conditions and legal obligations.
  • Stakeholder engagement on environmental issues and management including with the Airport
Consultative Committee (and subgroup, the Environmental Effects Working Group), the local
authority, Environment Agency and Natural England.
  • Provide support to the Head of Sustainability & Social Value and wider team, as
