Ranger

Forest of Marston Vale Trust

The Forest of Marston Vale Trust is the charity creating the Forest of Marston Vale
between Bedford and Milton Keynes. Since the early 1990’s, we’ve been planting trees to
transform the landscape and make the Marston Vale a thriving place to live, work and play.
We’ve already planted over 2 million trees to start creating the Forest, increasing tree cover
from 3% to 16.9%. We aim to have trees covering 30% of the 61 square mile Forest area.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, driven and passionate individual
to join our Ranger team. They’ll need to carry out effective site management and enhancement of
the Trust’s estate of woodlands, wetlands and grasslands, and actively engage and enthuse
visitors, improving the quality of these sites for both people and wildlife. They’ll help to
manage the award-winning Millennium Country Park (225ha), our flagship site which receives
around 450,000 visits per annum, and the Trust’s wider estate of community woodlands (400ha)
within the Forest of Marston Vale area.

The successful candidate will be experienced in
countryside/conservation management, leading volunteers and practical tasks. They’ll be a
resourceful self-starter with drive, determination and initiative; a natural team player, with
excellent communication and organisational skills. Microsoft Office skills are essential, as is
a valid driving licence, plus practical countryside/conservation management skills.

We offer a starting salary of £25,000-£27,000 depending on experience
and 33 days holiday (incl. Bank/Public Holidays) plus pension. The post is based at the Forest
Centre & Millennium Country Park, Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire. This is a permanent,
full-time position (37.5 hrs/wk) including regular weekend and Bank/Public Holiday working, on
a rota basis, as part of the Ranger Team.
