We’re dedicated to protecting the environment and enhancing the communities we serve. Our
mission goes beyond delivering one of life’s essentials; we’re committed to sustainability and
making a positive difference across our region. Join us to be part of something meaningful and
lasting that will leave a legacy for generations to come.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want to talk to you.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

This field-based role covers the Severn Trent region and involves macroinvertebrate sampling
using kick-net techniques, water quality assessments, and identifying species to family level
for RIVPACS analysis. You’ll also support wider team activities such as zooplankton analysis,
algal and wastewater monitoring, and contribute to high-quality reporting for ecological
assessments and compliance.

You’ll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee
engagement scores are among the highest globally in the energy and utilities sector. That’s why
we value in-person moments to keep our culture alive, while also recognising the flexibility
that working from home can bring. This role starts from home and involves travelling across our
region. So, while you’ll predominantly find us working in the field, home working is supported
when appropriate.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Field Sampling & Monitoring: Conduct kick-net sampling of macroinvertebrates and
perform in-situ water quality measurements (e.g., temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen,
    conductivity, turbidity).
  • Species Identification & Analysis: Identify macroinvertebrates to family level for
RIVPACS analysis using appropriate keys and support broader monitoring activities like
    zooplankton and algal assessments.
  • Data Recording & Reporting: Maintain detailed field records and prepare technical
reports with ecological assessments, data interpretation, and recommendations.
  • Collaboration & Equipment Maintenance: Work closely with team members and stakeholders,
ensuring safe fieldwork practices and assisting with calibration and upkeep of sampling
    equipment.
  • Provide expertise in fish identification, health and fishery recovery.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful in this role you will have great report writing and data analysis skills with
a keen eye for detail. You will also ideally have degree in Biology, Environmental Science,
Ecology, or a related field.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds,
