Bat Ecologist / Senior Bat Ecologist

Cornwall Environmental Consultants Ltd

Are you an experienced bat ecologist looking for more than just a job?

Do you want to make a real difference for wildlife while living and working in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK?

Cornwall Environmental Consultants (CEC) is looking for a Bat Ecologist or Senior Bat Ecologist to join our growing team. You’ll work on diverse and interesting projects across the stunning South West – from barn conversions to major infrastructure – while knowing that 100% of our profits are reinvested back into our team and gifted to Cornwall Wildlife Trust to protect and enhance nature for future generations.

Why Join Us?

  • Work where you want to live – Cornwall’s spectacular coastline, countryside, and wildlife on your doorstep.
  • Work-life balance built in – Hybrid working, flexible hours, and time off in lieu for surveys. Full time or part time applications welcome.
  • Be part of a growing, innovative consultancy – We’ve tripled turnover in the last five years.
  • Meaningful work that gives back – Your work directly funds nature conservation and supports our people.
  • Join a motivated, supportive team – A collaborative culture where everyone is encouraged to grow and contribute.
  • Salary range £28,000-35,000 depending on experience plus company profit share scheme

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and delivering bat surveys, assessments, and mitigation designs.
  • Applying for bat mitigation licences and ensuring projects meet the highest technical standards.
  • Managing projects, budgets, and client communications.
  • Producing clear, professional reports.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior ecologists.
  • Contributing to bids, tenders, and promoting CEC’s services and profile.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience delivering bat surveys and mitigation (ideally holding a bat licence and able to apply for mitigation licences).
  • Excellent report writing and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to quality, professionalism, and a positive team culture.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and travel across Cornwall (and occasionally Devon and Dorset) for site work.

The Practical Bits

  • Hours: Core hours are 8.30–4.30, Monday to Friday (with evening survey work in season).
  • Location: Hybrid working available – but you’ll need to be within reach of sites
  • Contract: Permanent, full-time or part-time
  • Company profit share scheme
