Carbon Projects Officer

Job Purpose Summary: CO2balance is a carbon management consultancy and project
developer, specialising in delivering high-impact, community-based projects for climate change
mitigation. Established in 2003, we work directly with local communities, NGOs and businesses
to provide climate change solutions in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

We are seeking a Carbon Projects Officer to assist our dynamic projects team to develop,
implement and coordinate community-based carbon projects, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa. In this
role, you will lead on data management and analysis for multiple projects, ensuring consistency
in data quality and reporting. You will work closely with your Line Manager to deliver high
quality projects that are aligned with company and certification standards, liaising with
overseas partners to implement project activities, assisting in project planning procedures,
and conducting certification activities to generate carbon credits.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
They should have a background in the environment and/or development sector, strong data
management and analytical skills, excellent communication skills, a good attention to detail,
and a strong commercial mindset. The role offers an opportunity to work for a purpose-drive

environment.

The role will be based in Bristol, UK. With experience, occasional travel may be requested to
the project areas when required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of high impact carbon offset projects
  • Assist in the development of project documentation including report writing and emission
    reduction calculations
  • Analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data from project monitoring studies
  • Research and conduct feasibility studies for new project activities
  • Keep up to date with developments in the carbon management sector
  • Assist with developing marketing materials for the projects

Required Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience in handling large data sets, including data cleansing, management and
    manipulation, prior to the application of statistical analyses to extract meaningful patterns
    and insights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for purposes of data analysis and
    report writing.
  • Strong research skills, including comprehending complex technical information and obtaining
    supporting literature for field survey data.
  • Familiar with field data collection approaches, generating survey templates and aligning
    approach to field context.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and impactful reports and visualisations tailored to
    different stakeholders including certification bodies and clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player, but also to work alone and manage own workload as
    required.
  • Educated to degree level in relevant field, such as environmental science.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a solution-oriented mindset and a commitment to
    continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple
    priorities, follow a plan, and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to
    explain complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative team player, willing to work across diverse teams and support project
    partners as needed, as well as the ability to work independently where required.

Desirable Experience and Skills

  • Experience with digital monitoring tools such as KoboToolbox.
  • Experience with GIS applications
  • A keen interest in sustainability
  • Experience working in environment/development consultancy
  • Knowledge of carbon project methodologies
  • Experience of foreign travel
  • Post graduate qualification
  • Fluency in a second language
