Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust
Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and ready for a hands-on role in one of the most
critical reptile recovery programmes in the world? Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is
looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Programme Coordinator to lead the
on-island efforts to save the critically endangered Saint Lucia racer (Erythrolamprus

About the Role
Based in Saint Lucia and reporting to Durrell’s Caribbean Programmes Manager and
Curator of Herpetology, you will be at the heart of efforts to conserve this iconic species.
Your main responsibility will be the daily management and welfare of the Saint Lucia
racer and other captive species held within our dedicated breeding facility. You’ll be
the key contact for Durrell’s racer programme in Saint Lucia, maintaining strong collaborations
with local partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily husbandry and wellbeing of all captive Saint Lucia racers.
- Manage and develop Durrell’s racer breeding facility.
- Collaborate with local conservation organisations and government bodies.
- Support and engage in fieldwork activities as needed.
- Lead outreach and community engagement to inspire pride and awareness of local
biodiversity.
What We’re Looking For:
- A strong background in animal husbandry, ideally with reptiles.
- Practical field conservation experience.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with community-based initiatives.
- A passion for conserving unique and threatened species.
Why Join Us?
At Durrell, you’ll be part of a global mission to save species from extinction. You’ll work
with a committed team of conservationists, herpetologists, and educators, helping to shape the future of a species that depends entirely on human intervention
to survive.
